Newport News, VA – After earning their first win of the season on Monday night, the Apprentice Women's Basketball team was back in action in the first part of a doubleheader against Regent University.  This would be the first time the two teams have met this season and Coach Hill was hoping her team could build off of Monday's performance.  It was an important EMAC match-up, as both teams were looking for momentum heading into the conference tournament at the end of the month.  The Football team was in attendance, which made it a loud home court advantage.

Brittney Jones got the Builders on the board to start the first quarter, but the Royals would fight back and midway through the quarter take a 5-point lead, 10-5.  Ashawnti Williams would cut the lead to 4-points after making 1-2 free throws and Jones would take advantage of a steal to pull Apprentice to within 2-points, 10-8.  Regent would answer with a basket down low and then Jordan Wilson got it back to 2-points with an offensive put back.  On their next possession, Ashawnti Williams drove to the basket to tie the game up at 12-12.  The Royals would go on a 4-0 run, but Kerrigan Smalls drove the ball in for 2-points and as the quarter came to an end, Apprentice would trail Regent, 16-14.

The second quarter saw Ashawnti Williams tie the game at 16-16 but Regent had an answer to retake the lead.  After a defensive stop, Nyla Jackson grabbed a pass and drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to take the 1-point advantage, 19-18.  Jackson would do it again, this time drive in for a layup and that was followed by a Jordan Wilson basket to push the lead to 5-points, 23-18.  The Royals would answer but Brittney Jones, once again found the basket to keep the Builders up by 5-points.  After going up by 7-points, Jones took a defensive rebound and drove it coast-to-coast for a fastbreak layup to increase the lead to 9-points, 29-20 and then Alena Puaauli-Pelham found the basket to give Apprentice their largest lead of the game, 31-20.  They would eventually go up by 35-22 and has the half came to an end the Builders found themselves leading by a score of 35-22.

Jordan Wilson started the third quarter with a running layup to push the lead to 15-points, and then the defense caused a shot clock violation to regain the ball.  Alena Pauuali-Pelham took advantage of the opportunity by taking a pass and draining a -3-pointer for the 19-point lead.  After another defensive stop, Jordan Wilson found the basket and then Ashawnti Williams made 1-2 free throws for to double up the lead, 44-22.  Apprentice would continue its strong play and as the quarter came to an end, they held the advantage 58-29.

As the fourth quarter began, the Builders continued to take advantage of their offensive opportunities and 3 minutes in they had a 25-point lead, 60-35.  Jordan Wilson, once again, was able to establish herself down low, giving Apprentice the advantage 62-36 and then she took another pass putting the Builders up by 28 points and as the game came to and end Apprentice would capture their 2nd win in a row, 67-42.

Jordan Wilson led the Builders with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Brittney Jones and Alena Puaali-Pelham each finished with 13 points and Ashawnti Williams continued her dominance on the boards, pulling down a team high 13 rebounds.  Apprentice will return to action Saturday when they travel to Asheville, NC to face Warren Wilson College.  Stay tuned to for game information.
