Wildcats Ease Past Royals

Virginia Beach, VA - The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team defeated Regent University 66-55 on Saturday afternoon to move over .500 for the first time since the third game of the season.

How It Happened:
  • The game's first eight minutes were a back and forth affair, as each team played to their strengths early. The Wildcats got three buckets in the paint, while Regent made a trio of three-point baskets. 
  • The contest remained close for much of the rest of the first half. Collin Irby's layup with 97 seconds left in the period gave JWU their largest lead to that point, 32-25, and Wildcats would also take a seven point advantage to the locker room, 34-27.
  • An Andrew Aiken three-pointer pulled the Royals to within two at the 17:19 mark, but consecutive three-pointers by Irby and JC Cooper three and a half minutes later pushed the JWU advantage to 8, 44-36.
  • Anthoney Ray scored JWU's next 10 points, topping the Royals' team output by 1 over the next seven minutes and fifteen seconds.
  • JWU held serve from there, eventually winning 66-55.

  • The Wildcats outscored the Royals 30-16 in the paint, and 17-9 fast break points.
  • Anthoney Ray had a game-high 23 points on 7-11 shooting, including 5-8 from the three-point line.
