In his first competition doning an Apprentice singlet, freshman Bruno Alves was the big star of the day for the Builders becoming the first Apprentice to ever reach the finals at this event. After a pair of dominant wins Friday evening, Bruno notched a 12-9 decision in the quarterfinals over 10th ranked (NCAA D3) Jared Kuhns of York. After upsetting the 3rd ranked wrestler from Brockport, Bruno's semifinal opponent was unable to continue. In the championship finals Bruno would face 7th ranked Sam Braswell of Averett, only to drop a 6-1 decision for a runner-up finish at 125.
Making his first collegiate appearance, Bruno Alves finished runner up in the 125lb. weight class at the New Standard Invitational on Saturday. Alves won his first two matches of the tournament before facing off against the 11th ranked wrestler in his class in NCAA D-III. Alves won that match 12-9, and went on to win two more matches before eventually falling in the final.
